Let’s Discuss… Weight Loss Medications
Alright guys, I will begin by stating the obvious. I AM NOT a medical professional. All I can tell you is MY experience and what I’ve learned along the way. 100% if you’re considering the medications- I fully recommend you check in with your doctors and of course do your research. But my hope is these entries can help inform those decisions!
Let’s begin with the TWO big medicines on the market, today. That everyone is talking about.

Semaglutide

#1: Semaglutide: Semaglutide belongs to a class of medications known as glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. It mimics the GLP-1 hormone that is released in the gastrointestinal tract in response to eating. One role of GLP-1 is to prompt the body to produce more insulin, which reduces blood glucose (sugar). GLP-1 in higher amounts also interacts with the parts of the brain that reduce appetite and signal a feeling of fullness.
Brand Names of Products, both made by Novo Nordisk. They are both the SAME exact product, they just have FDA approval for different conditions.

Tirzepatide

2: Tirzepatide: Tirzepatide activates receptors of hormones secreted from the intestine (glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) and glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP)) to reduce appetite and food intake. In short it does exactly what Semlagutide does PLUS more.

Brand names of Prodcuts, both made by Eli Lilly. They are both the SAME exact product, but have FDA approval for different conditions.

The above infographic, I think does the BEST job of explaining BOTH medications and in very simple, digestible terms explains the similarities and differences. That said, from here on out, most of my focus will be on Tirzepatide as this is the medication, I’ve chosen to take on this journey!
